The Darnestown ES PTA does not organize or sponsor classroom parties. Classroom celebrations are optional and are planned at the discretion of each classroom teacher (and volunteer caregivers).

Most classrooms typically celebrate:

🎃 Halloween (often includes the schoolwide afternoon parade)

❤️ Valentine's Day

☀️ End-of-Year Celebration

(Refer to ideas, inspiration, and resources provided below for each party)

If your child prefers not to participate in a classroom celebration, caregivers may contact DES to discuss alternative arrangements.

BEFORE PLANNING A CELEBRATION

Caregivers and volunteers are asked to first connect with the classroom teacher to learn:

  • Whether they plan to hold a celebration
  • The preferred date and time
  • Their vision, expectations, and any classroom guidelines
  • Whether volunteer assistance is requested

HOW CAREGIVERS CAN HELP

Many classroom volunteers have found it helpful to create a simple online sign-up that is shared with all classroom families. These sign-ups often include opportunities to donate items such as:

  • Plates, napkins, and cups
  • Nut-free, store-bought snacks and drinks
  • Simple craft supplies
  • Low- or no-cost games and activities
  • Volunteer support (if requested by the teacher)

Keeping celebrations simple, affordable, and inclusive helps ensure every student can enjoy the experience while minimizing the burden on any one family.
